Also known as Confucius.
"Let loyalty and truth be paramount with you. Have no friends not equal to yourself."
The loyalty I am good with. The truth part is more difficult. I like the idea of it, but it isn't always the easy thing to do. I think the friends thing is right on in a couple of respects. I think it is a little about being humble and realizing even if people aren't as smart or beautiful or *whatever* that they probably have some other redeeming characteristics. I think it is also about holding to a standard. Some people build themselves up by surrounding themselves with people they can be superior to and that is sort of a losing proposition all around. Better to build yourself up by having people around you that you are constantly striving to be as good as than just running around feeling good about yourself in an artificial context.
"If a man hear the Truth in the morning, he may die in the evening without regret."
This resonates with me. I think alot of regret comes from not being who we really are. I know I am happiest and people enjoy being around me most when I am being passionate and living in the moment. What more truth can there be than seeing ourselves truly and accepting it enough to embrace it and live it.
