Well, I went and met with the President of V__ today. The drive to Esparto just about kills me. Got home tonight at 11pm after driving back from Esparto, stopping for my class and then heading in to the office to do more work. Came in to find e-mail from our VP that V__ (client I met with today) is facing a hostile takeover by C__ who is a client of our competitor. We lost a huge client earlier this year when they were purchased by C__. I can't take all this industry consolidation. I love working with V__. They are an aweseom client, I'd be incredibly sad to lose them.
Class was... interesting... Yes, the room was full of eighteen year olds. Half of them left, not-so-subtley mid-class. The usual grade-mongering questions were asked: "Are the midterms multiple choice?" "Will you give us a study guide?" "Will you provide the answer key?" "Will you come with me to the potty and wipe my ass?"
I learned all about rocks and minerals. It was actually pretty interesting. We're going to talk about earthquakes and exciting stuff like that. Did you know that they've never actually drilled deep enough to reach the mantle? Did you know that they can tell the outer core of the earth is liquid because shear waves don't travel through liquid and when seismologists around the world coordinate their equipment they see a 'shadow space' where the shear waves aren't transmitted through the liquid outer core? Fascinating stuff. Really.
I think I am going to have a glass of wine and go read a chapter out of "The Witch of Cologne". Sleep tight.
