As if it a category 4 hurricane wasn't enough, apparently hurricanes can spawn tornadoes, you know, just to ensure complete and total destruction. The picture on CNN captioned something like 'Surviving chickens huddle in the remains of a coop after chicken farm destroyed by twister' was sort of surreal when just a couple clicks away are photos of poor, desperate people who will make their home the Astrodome for the next who-knows-how-long.
I just want to send a big f- YOU! to the European press which seems to think it's okay to say poor, innocent people deserve to have tragedy visited on them for voting for George Bush. Hello! New Orleans and environs are primarily Democratic. Besides, no reasonable karmic equation puts catastrophic destruction on the other side of the balance with Voting for George Bush. I guess, even being the staunch Democrat that I am, what I'm trying to say is that even if you did vote for George Bush you don't deserve to have a Hurricane land on your head.
I am a little disturbed by all the e-mail I've received urging me to donate money to saving pets and horses. Okay, so I would totally want someone to save my horses and stuff, but not over my children or over someone else's children please. People who care more about animals than people just plain scare me. I realize that some animals may be MUCH more likeable than some human beings, but still...
With regards to the hurricane, all I can say is that I'm grateful that the National Guard is at the ready and our best trained emergency responders aren't off in some war in... oh, wait... nevermind.
On the homefront, both kids are now sick. I anticipate a not-so-fun weekend of treatments for Viola.
