• "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" --Mary Oliver

  • Your biggest challenge isn't someone else. It's the ache in your lungs and the burning in your legs, and the little voice inside you the yells, "can't!" But you don't listen; you just push harder and then you hear the voice whisper "can" and you realize the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are.

I don't know...

if my nails will ever be the same but the framing of the house is finished.  My dad rocks, what can I say?  Every contractor, electrician, plumber, etc. I've talked to raised a skeptical eyebrow when I said that my dad was coming to frame the remodel of our kitchen, dining, laundry room expansion.  It was a complicated project involving a wall upon which the entire ceiling of the dining and kitchen rested and upon which the roof was braced.  It doesn't help that our 1950's custom home had a few 'custom' surprises.  I'm pretty sure that any contractor I hired would have told me it couldn't be done.

I wouldn't have let anyone BUT my dad do it.  He's the best 63-year-old framer there is.  Well, okay, he might be the only 63-year-old framer out there. :)  But to give you an idea, I went out to talk to the plumber and came back a bit later to find he'd put up a wall and hung all the ceiling joists in the new dining area.  I learned alot of new tricks today.  The roto-hammer was less than exciting but I lost about a lb of sweat getting those anchors into the concrete and weight loss of any kind is always a good thing. Heh.  Probably the most fun I had today was operating the 30lb demolition hammer.  Truth be told, after just having surgery I think I violated about every prohibition my surgeon set- but it felt good to actually do a little something, anything.  My dad calls my circular saw the "Barbie Saw"- I got a little Makita saw because I can actually lift it.

My new house is bee-yoo-tiful.  I sat there in the new empty space and thought, "We'll never be able to sell this house now.  How do you sell a house that your dad built for you?"  (So, I know he didn't build the whole thing but the part he did build is fabulous.)

I also worked today.  I also thought alot about doing laundry and showering but never got to either because I was working and trying to stay on top of everything going on at the house.  Finally, I need to do the last two years of taxes. Yikes!

Sounds GREAT Amy! Where are the before and after photos???

Wow, Amy, that is SO heartwarming. Your dad is a champ to do all that and what a cool legacy that will be forever. You gotta post a picture of the 63 year old framer and his work!

Your favorite topic - the Duggar's popped out number 17!

Can you believe it - 17. The woman is sick and Discovery Health I've stopped watching after they glorify this family like their something to aspire to. Yuck!
