I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm one of THOSE people. I like to try on and discard hobbies- kind of how I am with food, too, you know? You don't know?
Okay, well let's say that today I got a sudden craving for rainbow sherbet which I haven't had in months or maybe years- bah, decades even. My modus operandi is to buy as many buckets of the stuff as I can cram into my freezer and pretty much only eat rainbow sherbet until it is all gone. Often, I'll have to go back and refill the freezer- but eventually, the day will come, where I put down the sherbet and it is likely to sit there in the freezer until it is overcome by those weird frosty crystals that we call 'ice cream mold' but is probably freezer burn.
Maybe I read "Bread and Jam for Francis" a few too many times during my formative years.
Anyhow, sometimes I do this with hobbies. That is why I have a massive yarn stash and a knitting basket that remains untouched for some time now. Knitting may not be the best example because I LOVE to knit and always come back to it.
Soap-making might be the better example seeing as how I have a massive tote in storage full of essential oils, massive blocks of glycerin, molds, scales, thermometers, dried lavender and even a few big buckets of sodium hydroxide. That's lye, people. I was so tuckered out after picking out all the recipes, ordering supplies, toting buckets of lye around that I was too exhausted to actually ever get around to making the soap.
Did the same with the scrapbooking thing. I am just SO not a scrapper. I do have all kinds of cool toys, though: a cricut expression machine that cuts all sorts of cute designs out of paper, a cuttlebug which allows me to emboss paper, a Xyron sticker-maker thingamabob, and even a laminating machine. I have used all of these things over the past few years- though rarely, if ever, for scrapbooking. We do make our own cards, invitations, awards, valentines and so on. Yes, I love my fun toys but I have decided I need to either get to it or get rid of it. I have a few big totes and baskets *full* of craft supplies. To my credit, these have always come in quite handy- I do crafts with the girls, the girls do crafts with their friends, I haul the stuff in to be used for Girl Scout meetings, etc..
Friday. Friday was one of those days. The weather was a little dreary. Vi stayed home from school with an illness. Ave had Daisy Scouts after school and then after that we hung around the house waiting for a special delivery for Ave from Grandma Tylene, Grandpa Steve, Auntie Erica and Auntie Natalie.
Night kinda crept up on us. Dean got home and we grilled up some New York steaks. The girls played some Wii and I got caught up in messing around with my Cricut machine. I have a relatively new cartridge called Stretch Your Imagination and it has such cute shapes so I loaded up some paper and started playing with different cutouts.
Bedtime rolled around and the girls went off to sleep. Dean was working on fixing some code and so we chatted in the kitchen- he sat at the counter while I worked over the dining table. It was sort of inadvertent, the whole card-making thing- I was initially going to find a cute design for Ave's party invites. Yep, I made a card.
Now I've decided this is kind of fun, this little paper craft hobbie. I think I'm going to try to do more. See the next post for the end result of last evenings paper shenanigans.
P.S. I am going to try really hard to not let the crafting effect my blog. You aren't going to come visit again, if you ever do, and find a format that looks like someone threw up pepto bismal on your computer screen. I will not decorate my header with creepy, dancing anthropomorphised critters accompanied by a tinny, repetitive jingle. Ok?
I want to do crafts with you! Also I think some jamming is in order - soon. What are you up to this weekend - after the birthday party??
