Today I went in to Avery's class and took photos of all the kids, one at a time. Editing them tonight and taking them to school tomorrow so they can be used for making a very-special-valentine.
After school, helped herd the brownie troop over to a local facility for people with alzheimer's and dementia. The girls sang, passed out Valentines they made and read a couple of books to the crowd. They circulated and talked to the people there. I think it was a little intimidating for them but they did a great job. Ave led a rousing rendition of the National Anthem. Some of the other scouts joined in and then dropped out as the high notes exceeded their range but it was pretty good altogether.
Been helping the girls make valentines for their classmates with the cricut and the cuttlebug. Worth every penny, I say.
Now, I just put on a pair of pajama pants I sewed for myself. I had my most absolute favorite pj bottoms from Victria's Secret and actually went through two sets. This last set I wore til they were threadbare and had a massive tear over my left buttcheek but none of the other pj bottoms have quite matched up in a pattern that I like. So, I cut up those pjs and took some flannel I had picked ut in a pattern I liked and sort of sewed a pair on the fly using the cut up pjs as a pattern.
I am wearing my new pj bottoms as I write this. There is something very satisfying about sewing an article of clothing that is comfy and I know will be worn regularly. The kids even liked them and they are the first to criticize my wardrobe, so yeah.
Going to do some reading and writing now and admire the stencil I made over the hallway mirror that says "Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful"- totally one of my favorite quotations right now.
Excited for tomorrow? How can one not be excited for a whole day set aside to celebrate the one thing I think life is really all about- love?
I don't know why I failed to see it before but THERE is the answer to my favorite question: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
The answer is the same answer to every question, every problem, the solution to every meaningful equation. LOVE. Thankfully, it comes in every shape and size and colors and depths and places and... there are just so many options for love. I never want to lose sight of that. Someone once said there could be love in doing dishes or laundry. I believe that now- love doesn't have to be grandiose or even announced- sometimes it is most precious when it is not. (But secretly, I will say I prefer love in some of its more exhilarating forms, like watching my kids scream and run as they play in the waves at the beach or hearing it in the cantering hoofbeats beneath me or squeezing someone's hand while squealing on a rollercoaster ride). I think part of growing up, becoming more mature is being able to see love in its small spaces, in its mundane forms, and still appreciate the miracle of it.
