Pardon me, but surely it's tsp and not Tbsp of baking soda, yes?? I did the Tbsp since that's what was written but it was so salty that even frosting cold not hide it. Otherwise i think it would have been delicious :)

This recipe was great! My son is allergic to eggs and it is so hard to find great tasking cookies that don't contain eggs. Thanks to you we have been making great tasting cake cookies like crazy. :0) Do you by any chance have any recipes for egg-less cakes?

I'm on a mission now, Mary. (Most people who know me know I can't resist a challenge!) I know I have seen 'cake' recipes out there with no eggs but have such a density of chocolate and little else I don't know that it would truly appeal to a kid. It is tough having kids who are allergic to stuff that is in pretty much everything. Thank goodness we've mostly outgrown our dairy issues except for the straight drinking of milk which causes all kinds of weirdness with my girls.

I just googled eggless cake mix cookies and got this- was reading and figured I would share a recipe or two...
I also have a son with egg and nut allergies. Cakes- the easiest/best (not great, but compared to some of the bricks I have gotten trying other recipes, good), is the weight watchers trick of just pouring a can of diet soda into a cake mix. Best mix so far has been white cake mix with diet orange soda and confetti sprinkles - a little whipped cream and berries on top the kids loved it. I have also done the cake mix and diet soda and added some oatmeal and/or flour to get to cookie consistency to make easy cookies. Can't wait to try this recipe though.

Below is a recipe a friend sent me from allrecipes.com . The banana bread turned out great- I am going to try applesauce and spices to make a spice cake, and still trying to figure a way to make it chocolatey.

• 2/3 cup sugar
• 1/3 cup shortening
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup mashed ripe bananas
1. Note: This recipe does NOT contain eggs or milk. In a large bowl, cream sugar and shortening for about 5 minutes (mixture does not get smooth). Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with bananas, beating after each addition (the batter will be thick). Spoon into a greased 9-in. x 5-in. x 3-in. loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40-45 minutes or until bread tests done with a toothpick. Cool in pan for 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack.

(I made it in a regular loaf pan and put a little bit in a snack cake pan- could probably have fit it all in just a regular loaf pan).

Betty Crocker has a chocolate snack cake recipe in the cookbook that has no butter, milk, or eggs in it. It's best when it is fresh, though, so you'll want to make it the day you want to eat it. Mine just came out of the oven, and they are incredibly salty. My kids like the first few bites, but they won't eat them anymore. :(

I used a Betty Crocker confetti cake mix, and followed the recipe to a T.

I had the same problem with the "dump" cake I made a few days ago. It was soooo good the first few bites, then the saltiness caught up with us and we threw the remainder of the cake away.

"Baking Soda Cookies". It's a good thing I broke it down into -4- batches. I made them w/almonds and chocolate chips. First batch was awful!! All you could Taste was "BAKING SODA"...YUK!! I managed to sift and rinse off all that nasty cookie dough and save my expensive almonds and chocolate chips. I think you made a mistake on the recipe,or the joke in on us. You called for only 1/4 tsp for a whole cake and 1 1/2 TABLE SPOONS for -1- cake mix to make cookies???? Glad your kids like BAKING SODA cookies...Mine sure don't....YUK with a belch..

I was so excited about these but they were horrible! All we could taste was baking soda😕

Cookies are horrible, they went all flat, and mushy on me, and they are incredibly salty!👎🏻
